Barcelona Conference Fashion - Chambray dress, fringe and a Blazer

Hello from Barcelona loves!
Today I bring you an outfit I am wearing to the conference here in Barcelona! It's been a long day of traveling from LA, and after settling in the hotel room, I decided to check out the convention center, check in to the conference, and sit in for some talks before heading out and seeing some sights and getting dinner!
Since it will be 90 degrees F (~32 degrees C) all week here, I decided to mostly wear dresses to the conference! In order to make the dresses look more professional, I am pairing them with a blazer and some heels!
I have to present at the poster competition tomorrow, so I will be wearing something similar! I am excited to present my research internationally and get great ideas about my research and other research going on in the community!
I have been eyeing the chambray trend for a while now, and I finally bought a chambray dress from eShakti. I previously posted about new trends at eShakti and this is one of the dresses I fell in love with!  It is long enough to be sophisticated while providing a flattering look with a sweetheart neckline! I added the plain black blazer  (Steve Harvey Collection) on top to wear inside the convention center, since it is too hot outside to be wearing long sleeves, but sitting in talks all day inside will become a little chilly with the AC! I also wore this fringed black purse I got from Ross - Brand "Perfect Image" (store similar to TJ Maxx), I can't remember the brand, but it was $12 and I have been eyeing this kind of purse for months now (as if you couldn't tell from my posts!). I tried to pack lightly so I brought a few pieces I could match with different outfits, so you will be seeing similar pieces adapted to different things! I have a tendency to over pack, but I was determined to pack smart this time! (I had to pack for both a 4-day conference and vacation!)

Summer Trends - Dresses galore!

Hello lovelies!
I've had a rather busy/stressful couple of weeks, so apologies on lack of regular posts! Busy with pushing forward a project as fast as I can before I leave the country for a conference, in addition to finding out I'm moving at the end of the month (thank you University housing for the last minute notification!), I've been a little bit of a mess with very little sleep!
In addition I have been itching to go shopping, I haven't had a chance to go to the mall/stores recently, but I have been online window shopping... every few months I decide to spend 100$ or so on some new pieces. I had been looking at new arrivals/dresses on Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, and my fashionista friends told me about Zara's summer sale on summer dresses! I was ecstatic, but I don't get paid until next month so dresses will have to wait (my online shopping cart is full and waiting! ;) ) I am tired of the clothes I have and I need some new pieces for outfits to shoot!

While online shopping, I decided to pop over to eShakti.com, and came across eShakti's new summer dresses, and if you remember back in December I had a collaboration with them where I reviewed one of their dresses, and I remember how cool it was to customize my dress. Well, here are some of my favorite upcoming summer trends, with picks from their website - and then a coupon code at the end! There are some really cool pieces that are totally lab appropriate, and the code will give you $35 off (There's a lot of stuff on sale too, so take off 35$ and you are getting an amazing deal!)

I really think this is cool - same dress, different neckline, sleeves and length!

Exp Bio Day 4 - #ExpBioFashion

Hi everyone!
Today's post comes to you with some awesome fashion from people who have been attending the conference! I met a lot of great, interesting people at various networking events, and while I felt a little shy to pop out my camera and ask to take photos of people's fabulous outfits, the topic of being a fashion blogger for the conference came up - and I got a lot of positive feed back!
Being the only one at the conference from my lab and not knowing anyone else attending, I had throw myself out there and just meet others, start conversations, and have a good time. I met a lot of great students presenting their research, not only graduate students but also some undergraduates, in addition to professors and recruiters.
Each night of the conference there was some kind of networking event hosted by various committees, and I made sure to make an effort to attend as many as I could. Not only were there free drinks, but  some good food and company. Worst thing that can happen is I get bored and I can leave. I ended up staying the whole time to each event I went to and had a great time with the people I had met!

I was able to take photos from a couple of fashionable people I had the pleasure of meeting, and they were more than willing to let me take their photo!

Experimental Bio 2015 Conference Day 2 - Fashion and Recap of events!

Hell everyone!

Welcome to my Day 2 recap of the Experimental Biology 2015 conference!
Today I decided to go for a little more dressy, I recently bought this dressy midi skirt, a la Kim Kardashian (or so it reminded me of her), so I wanted to wear it out. This morning I changed outfits maybe 5 times before I decided on this combination.
I bought this dress skirt last minute at Ross, by Eci New York. It was the perfect size and super flattering. It wasn't tight or too fitted, I could easily move in it as it was made with stretchy fabric. I also wore a coral blouse top with a jeweled neckline I bought at Charlotte Russe. It was perfect because I didn't have to wear a necklace or jewelry after!
Since this is Boston in March, I had to make sure I wore a cover up. I originally was going to walk out of my hotel room without a jacket since it was super sunny outside, but then I realized this wasn't LA. And boy, was I right. IT. WAS. SO. COLD.
Since I grew up in Massachusetts, I didn't think the cold would be such a big deal. But it was, when I wanted to wear something cute like this outfit. The leather jacket that I love (from Express) was definitely not warm enough, because I was FROZEN wearing it. Do not be fooled, I look happy in these photos but I was freezing! Tomorrow I will be better prepared, with a more warm jacket and pants most likely!

Floral Print for Spring BBQ!

Happy Spring lovelies!
This past weekend I went to a BBQ with some friends up in the valley at Lake Balboa. It was a glorious spring day in Los Angeles, and I was expecting the cherry blossoms to be in full bloom! Upon arriving at the lake, there were no cherry blossoms, but the trees had some I guess... but not as great as in the past when I have come to this lake!
It was a potluck style BBQ, and we all brought a dish to share, and burgers were cooked on the grill!
After stuffing ourselves and enjoying the sun, we decided to head back to west LA for a cat nap/food coma nap.
I decided to wear this really pretty dress I received from my Aunt for my birthday, from PinkWoman. I adore the floral print on the skirt of this dress! It is so pretty and the colors are super feminine and soft. The black top of the dress is super flattering, and then floats out with the skirt!

Road Trip to Vegas, Pit stop fashion

Hello lovelies!
Today I bring you fashion from my recent road trip to Vegas for my birthday! The road trip from LA is a good 4 hour drive, if you don't stop at all...but being cramped into a car for 4 hours can sometimes be unbearable, so we had to stop a little more than half way in the middle of the desert, in Baker, CA. At this pitstop we got some snacks and drinks at the local gas station, and there was some interesting scenery. I busted out my camera and had my friend snap some photos of my outfit.

Spring into Style with Apparel Candy!

Hello lovelies! and happy Tuesday!
It has been warming up here in LA this past weekend, and with this time change, the sun is out much later! It feels nice leaving lab and the sun is still out! That only means that spring is coming! And to honor this warm up in LA (sorry all my friends on the east coast with snow and cold weather still, but spring is coming soon for you too!), I have created a style board featuring cute pieces to wear this spring, featuring items from ApparelCandy!
I am totally into pinks/coral/purple shades for this spring, and I inadvertently picked things in the same color palette! I am loving some sun dresses, particularly for brunch on the weekend with friends, along with some cat-eye sunnies (sunglasses), which style is my favorite right now!

Valentine's Day Outfit - Bring back body-con

Hello loves!
With Valentine's day in a few days, I thought to show you all what I'm wearing this Valentine's day! I have plans with the boyfriend for a quiet night in (which includes cooking dinner), but that doesn't mean I can't dress for the occasion!

I have recently been wearing flow-y dresses, but back in my early 20s I was a huge fan of the body-con dress! I have since gotten a little more conscious of my body when wearing a tight fitting dress, but I thought why not. After cleaning my room this weekend and finally putting away all my clothes, I rediscovered an old favorite, this black textured body-con style dress from TopShop, that I bought in London back in 2010! Since I went with a black dress, I decided to accessorize with some pops of color, red, gold, and white! I used a red bow clutch I bought last year from The Limited, a white drop statement necklace from Charlotte Russe, a pink/rose gold cocktail ring from the Ona Chan Collection from Boyajian Trend Gallery, and some black and gold bracelets. I also used a red lipstick from Rimmel London. which I have been itching to wear! For shoes, I decided to wear my red strappy heels, I don't remember where I got them from, but they were perfect for this outfit!

This outfit was the perfect combination of romantic and also a little sexy. Paired with big curls (which lasted for hours by the way, uncommon for my hair!), a smile, and a relaxing night, makes for the perfect Valentine's day!

Transition Wear - Lab to Night out

I recently went out for dinner for DineLA week at this AMAZING sushi place called Sugarfish. It was sooo delicious, totally worth the price! I had a pretty busy day in lab so I knew I wouldn't have time to go home to change before the dinner reservation with friends, so I wore an outfit I knew I could easily transition from day to night!

Red Hot Holiday Party Dress - eShakti

This past weekend I attended a holiday party I organized for the department, and it was a little stressful! We had to order a lot of beer and food for the grad students, which coordinating was interesting, but ended up being a success! The next night a friend was hosting a cocktail holiday party at her apartment, and I decided to wear this red hot dress I got from eShakti.com! I was amazed at how beautiful it was and how perfectly it fit!

Anniversary outfit - Special occasion casual dress!

It has been raining the last couple of days here in LA (finally!), but last week was really nice. I had my anniversary with the boyfriend and we had a casual date night out with dinner and a movie, it was quite nice! Here is what I wore, a really cute, comfy sundress that I bought in Hawaii! I fell in love with the high-lo look of this dress, and how flow-y it is! The color is one of my favorites, and I used black accent pieces that I have blogged about before (the purse, the sandals).
I have been meaning to post about this outfit all week but have been swamped with work!

What do you think of this look? What would you wear to a casual date?

Fall in LA - deep purple/Berry

My best friend from home came to visit me in LA after I went home for her sister's wedding! So of course we had to do some sight seeing and head over to Hollywood boulevard to the walk of fame!
After being on the east coast where the temperatures were cooler and fall was in full bloom, I had to break out my boots I bought while at home and this really cute deep purple/berry dress I bought from H&M for not too much!  I am loving this color for the fall, it's so lovely!
It is actually getting a little cooler in LA right now which is perfect! Although I would like to wear some cute jackets and sweaters as well...
I added a sparkly headband placed on top of my head for a boho chic feel, what do you think???

Magical Red Carpet

A friend invited me to go to "The Magic Castle" last week in Hollywood, an exclusive members only club, where magic happens! Legit magic, there are tons of magic shows going on throughout the night, set in a 1900s style castle with restored bars and rooms. It is not only a place for magic shows, but there are several bars, it is a dinner restaurant, and a place to hang out. Several celebrities go there to hang out, and we even saw a few people there. No cameras are allowed inside the actual castle, but we took some pictures at the red carpet they had set up outside! It was pretty fun. A couple of glasses of wine, some good company, and awesome magic shows, it was a rather magical night!

It was also a Monday night, so I had to leave lab early (6 pm, sadly that's early for me...haha!), get dressed up, and have a good night with friends. It was a change from the usual routine, and it made me feel better about working - I have a social life, not just work-work-work all the time!

There is a strict dress code; men must wear suit and tie, and women must dress fancy!
So I busted out this dress that I bought from Asos.com 3 years ago - it was the perfect bodycon dress, I am in love with the color and it had enough sparkle! I particularly love the neckline, with a little peek-a-boo skin showing!

Oh and be sure to show some love and "like" my new facebook page!

Greek Festival fashions

This past weekend I attended the Greek Festival at the Greek Church in Koreatown/Downtown LA! In past years I have volunteered to help out but this year I was quite busy so I just headed there to enjoy the festival and food. I headed there with some friends and got a Gyro pita and a frappe! (pictured below) I also bought some yummy greek pastries that I devoured throughout the week! It was great, although I did get a little homesick! It was also rather hot in LA that day, so I wore a coral sun dress from H&M. Did I say I got it on sale for $5?!?!?! Such a steal! And it is easily converted to lab wear by adding some black leggings and boots! Can't wait to wear it to the lab! An easy outfit to go from day to night -- lab with leggings and boots to night with legging removal and heels/sandals!

Some Updates - Yesterday's Outfit, networking, and facebook page!

Hi everyone! Happy September!
I finally returned from my vacation in Hawaii, it was amazing! Very relaxing and much needed! More pictures on that soon! I bought a lot of cute stuff that I have adapted to be able to wear in the lab, I will post about them this week!

In other news, I was contacted by Mary from FAB Counsel, about an amazing opportunity to learn how to Monetize your blog and make it better for your readers, an event in Santa Monica, CA on October 7, with a lot of advice from some top bloggers called FAB DI Lab - Digital Influencer Lab . I bought my ticket after attending another event yesterday at the Microsoft Store at the Century City Mall, where I met Heidi Nazarudin from TheSuccessfulStyle.com and BloggerBabes.com, and both Mary and Enrico from FabCounsel.com. It was a short 1 hr workshop where I got to learn about what I really need to do to help build my blog! and afterwards there was a short networking event where I met some other bloggers! It got me really excited!
If you want to purchase a ticket to the #FABDILab Event, check out this link: http://fabcounselevents.eventbrite.com/?aff=FABDILABAFFILIATE2&afu=115468858365
and let me know if you are going! I would love to meet you!
I think this is a great opportunity to network! As a grad student, I feel like I am constantly around the same people, and while networking is important for my professional studies, this allows me to network outside of my comfort zone and meet people I look up to, whether it be fashion or beauty related, or even just pros in whatever they are doing. It gives a new perspective to grad school because there is life outside of the lab!

Here is what I wore to the event yesterday! I wore a dress I posted about recently, with red stone earrings, and my makeup was done using my Naked3 Palette and just some pink lip gloss!

What I'm wearing right now! Hawaii-to-Airport-to-Lab Fashion

Here's a preview of what I wore to the airport in Hawaii for my flight back to LA!
I had a crazy couple of hours leaving Hawaii; it was a pretty chill day, I spent the day with my cousin at the beach, and after laying in the sun and swimming in the crystal clear blue waters, we went shopping at a local store called Local Fever; I bought 70 dollars worth of clothes and jewelry, and let me tell you I got a lot of pieces! One of the dresses I bouht was this mint green patterned Maxi dress with these strappy black heeled sandals. It was beautiful! I decided to wear this on the plane.
I had a red eye (overnight) flight back to LA (5-6 hr flight), landing at 5 am. Since my friend had my only key copy to take care of my cat and I had a meeting at 9 am, so  I went straight to lab right after landing in LA. I needed something that was lab appropriate and covered my legs. The Maxi dress was great, it was very long and covered my feet - and when I got to lab I changed into my sneakers. While not the most fashionable combination, it did the job for when I was working in the lab and then I could easily switch back to my sandals when getting lunch. I bought some more cute dresses and tops, I will post full outfit posts soon about these outfits! What do you think?

It was a beautiful day out, and I walked to lab (with flats of course, not the heels pictured) and then I put on long black leggings and sneakers when I got to work. When I went for lunch I just slipped off the leggings and put on my flats again :) pretty versatile outfit I may say :) what do you think? I'm in love with this pattern! its so vibrant and beautiful!

Graduation Fashion Styles - Motel Rocks!

It's been a stressful last couple of weeks, with finals and research deadlines....so sorry I've been MIA -- but I am back and I have a lot of posts planned for the next couple of days/weeks!

First of all, I recently purchased some really cute clothes from MotelRocks.com, I used to be obsessed with their clothes but I found that on my grad student salary and higher rent I couldn't afford the cute things they had, but there was a sale and I used a code for 20% off (use my code "andreah227"for 20% off your order!!) and how happy am I that I bought these!! I had to go to the post office to pick up my parcel and it was great timing because I was having a hard time trying to decide what to wear to UCLA's graduation ceremony!

A lot of my friends just graduated with their PhDs!!! SO proud of them! And my boyfriend also graduated! Can't wait for my turn in 2-3 years! :)

I was also meeting my boyfriend's parents for the first time so I wanted to make a good impression. The Motel dress was PERFECT! and I estimated my size perfectly, I was worried it wouldn't fit. Last time I ordered from Motel the dress was too small, so I ordered a medium this time. This is the Motel Girly Skater Dress in Nude Lace (Cream).
What do you think of this dress?

Bachelorette Party Fashion

My friend is getting married in October so we decided to have her bachelorette party this weekend, especially since so much is happening the next couple of months, with her graduation, moving, new job, etc. We decided to surprise her and get dinner at Drago Centro, a really high scale Italian restaurant in downtown LA, and then we moved the party to drinks at Silo Vodka Bar. It was a great night! We went into their Freezer and tried different types of vodka! Their "freezer" was actually a cold room, haha, we use a cold room for our experiments in lab and it was kind of cool seeing it storing vodka. Although that means its a cold room storing ethanol, and is a fire hazard, according to EH&S.
