Andrea is a recent PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UCLA, whose PhD research was focused on Protein Arginine Methylation. Her work has been published in reputable journals, and can be found on Pubmed. Trained as a classical Biochemist, she enjoys protein biochemistry and also is very interested in cancer epigenetics and disease models. She will be a Post Doctoral Fellow in Industry beginning in Fall 2017.
As the creative director and blogger in chief of PhD Fashionista, Andrea started this blog to break the stigma that being a scientist means you are boring, awkward, and "nerdy." She initially started this blog as a way to keep track of her practical outfits to wear to lab while still looking fashionable and obeying the strict lab safety rules at UCLA. She hopes PhD Fashionista turns into a resource and inspiration for women to turn to for fashion for conferences, every day work and weekend fashion, and also life style inspiration and advice for grad school.
She has a wide variety of interests including fitness, learning languages, and traveling. She is also heavily involved in science communication, outreach and education in STEM, and served as an advocate for Graduate Students. She also acts as an independent consultant/blogger for a nonprofit organization.
She mentored undergraduate students at the Undergraduate Resource Center at UCLA for the last three years, as well as mentoring undergraduates and graduate students in the lab. She has also served as student representative in the UCLA Graduate Student Association, the Math and Physical Sciences Council, Chemistry and Biochemistry Student Association, and overlooked and supervised the formation of a Biochemistry Student Association. She also served as the Social Media director for the March for Science LA, and is very active in causes important to her.

The reason why you started blogging is so great and interesting! I'm also aiming for a career in the sciences, so you're really an inspiration and not to mention beautiful!

aww you are too kind!!! <3 <3 thank you so much! glad I can be an inspiration! You can do it!! xxx
DeleteAltogether I have to say is "Awesome"! I'm matriculating into my PhD program this coming fall. I was researching for content that broadcasts the fun, creative, and exciting lifestyles of future scientists. People really think academia is boring and we bear no life other than research and sleeping in libraries. Lol.. Overall, this is truly inspiring and keep blogging. This can potentially alter the perception and influence others to pursue terminal degrees in STEM.
